About the D7
Portugal's Residence Visa for Passive Income
The D7 visa allows non-EU nationals with stable passive or regular income to obtain Portuguese residency. Unlike investment-based programs, the D7 requires no capital outlay -- eligibility is based on demonstrable income that meets Portugal's minimum threshold, currently tied to a multiple of the national minimum wage.
After five years of legal residence, D7 holders may apply for permanent residency or Portuguese citizenship.

Pension, rental income, dividends, remote employment, or other stable and regular income. The minimum threshold is based on multiples of Portugal's national minimum wage -- confirmed during your eligibility review.
Thresholds are updated annually. We verify current figures at consultation.
Family Inclusion
Spouses or legal partners, dependent children, and dependent parents can be included. Each additional family member requires a supplementary income threshold.
Stay Requirements
The D7 requires you to establish residence in Portugal. Holders must spend a minimum of 183 days per year in Portugal or demonstrate habitual residence. This is not a remote residency program.
Path to Citizenship
After 5 years of legal residence, you may apply for Portuguese citizenship and an EU passport. The citizenship timeline is subject to legislative review -- we advise on the current position at consultation.

Common Questions
Working With Us
Can you manage a D7 visa application remotely?
Yes. We coordinate the full process remotely using power of attorney where required. The only in-person steps are the consulate appointment in your country of residence and, after arrival in Portugal, the AIMA biometrics appointment.
What documents do you need from me to start?
To begin, we need a copy of your passport, proof of income (pension statements, employment contracts, rental agreements, or investment income documentation), and a brief overview of your family situation if applying with dependants. Our legal team provides a full documentation checklist after the initial eligibility review.
Do you handle family applications?
Yes. Spouses or legal partners, dependent children, and dependent parents can be included in a single D7 application. We manage the additional documentation and consulate coordination for all family members.
What is the typical end-to-end timeline?
From engagement to residence permit, the typical timeline is 3 to 6 months. This includes documentation preparation, consulate appointment, and the initial AIMA appointment after arrival in Portugal. Timelines vary by consulate and individual circumstances.
How are your fees structured?
We charge a fixed legal fee covering the full application process from documentation through to residence permit issuance. Family members incur an additional per-person fee. Government and third-party costs (NIF, translations, apostilles) are quoted separately. We provide a complete cost breakdown during the initial consultation.
What happens if AIMA processing is delayed?
AIMA processing times can fluctuate. Our legal team monitors your case status throughout, follows up with AIMA on your behalf, and keeps you informed of any changes. If additional documentation is requested, we handle the response directly.
