The Telework Visa
Work Remotely, Live in Spain
Spain's Digital Nomad Visa -- officially the Visado para Teletrabajo de Caracter Internacional -- allows non-EU remote workers to live and work legally in Spain while employed by companies outside the country. Introduced under Spain's Startup Act (Ley 28/2022), it launched in January 2023 and has become one of Europe's most popular residence options for location-independent professionals.
Applicants must earn at least EUR 2,849 per month (200% of Spain's minimum wage), hold a degree or three years of professional experience, and have worked with their current employer or clients for at least three months. The visa grants Schengen-area travel, a path to permanent residency after five years, and access to Spain's Beckham Law tax regime -- a flat 24% rate on income up to EUR 600,000.

Employed by a company registered outside Spain with a remote work arrangement. The company must have been operating for at least one year and must have employed you for at least three months. W2 employees and traditional employment contracts are now accepted. Employer must authorise remote work from Spain in writing.
Freelancers & Contractors
Self-employed professionals working with international clients. At least 80% of income must come from outside Spain -- up to 20% may come from Spanish clients. Three months of active client relationships required. Invoices, contracts, and bank statements used to evidence income and client base.
Consulate Route
Apply from your home country through a Spanish consulate. Visa issued for up to one year. On arrival in Spain, convert to a three-year residence permit (TIE) through UGE-CE. Processing time: 15 to 45 business days. Recommended for applicants who cannot travel to Spain before applying.
In-Spain Route
Apply directly from within Spain if legally present (tourist visa, visa-free entry, or any valid visa). Residence permit issued for up to three years without the intermediate one-year visa step. Filed online through UGE-CE. Typically faster -- two to three months from filing to approval. Requires NIE and digital certificate or authorised representative.
Why MovingTo
More Than Filing the Application
Any firm can submit forms. The difference is whether your documentation is structured to avoid requests for additional information, your tax position is optimised from day one, and your family is included in a single coordinated timeline.
Beckham Law Tax Setup
Spain's special tax regime for inbound workers (Regimen Especial de Trabajadores Desplazados) offers a flat 24% income tax rate on earnings up to EUR 600,000 for the first six years. You must register within six months of your visa. We coordinate the Modelo 149 filing with the Spanish tax authority (AEAT) as part of the engagement -- not as an afterthought.
Route Strategy
Consulate or in-Spain -- each route has different timelines, document requirements, and initial permit durations. Applying from within Spain grants a three-year permit directly, but requires legal presence, a NIE, and either a digital certificate or an authorised representative. We assess your circumstances and recommend the route that delivers the strongest outcome in the shortest timeframe.
Full Documentation
Income evidence, employment verification, health insurance, criminal record certificates, apostilles, sworn translations, social security coordination -- every document prepared, reviewed, and assembled into a complete dossier before submission. Requests for additional documentation are the primary cause of delays. We structure the file to avoid them.
Service Scope
What We Handle, What We Don't
We Handle
We Don't
From Assessment to Residence in Spain
Typical timeline: 2 to 4 months from engagement to approval
01
Eligibility & Strategy
We verify your income against the EUR 2,849 monthly threshold, confirm your employment or freelance status meets the three-month minimum, and assess your qualifications. Based on your circumstances -- nationality, current location, family situation -- we recommend the consulate route or the in-Spain route and outline the full timeline.
02
Documentation
Complete document assembly: income evidence, employment contract or client agreements, employer authorisation letter, criminal record certificates (apostilled and translated), health insurance policy, proof of address or accommodation, and social security coordination documents. Every item reviewed for compliance before submission.
03
Application Filing
Consulate route: appointment booked, applicant prepared for interview, passport submitted with full dossier. In-Spain route: application filed electronically through UGE-CE with authorised legal representation. Family applications filed simultaneously. We monitor status and respond to any requests for additional documentation.
04
Approval & Setup
Post-approval: TIE residence card application, NIE confirmation, empadronamiento (municipal registration), social security enrolment, and Beckham Law tax registration (Modelo 149 filed with AEAT within six months). For consulate applicants, we coordinate the transition from visa to three-year residence permit upon arrival in Spain.

Common Questions
Working With Us
What are the income requirements?
You must earn at least EUR 2,849 per month (200% of Spain's minimum wage as of 2026). For families, add EUR 1,069 per month for the first dependent and EUR 357 for each additional dependent. Income is gross (before tax) and can be demonstrated through payslips, employment contracts, invoices, and bank statements. Multiple income sources can be combined.
Should I apply from a consulate or from within Spain?
The consulate route grants a one-year visa, later converted to a three-year residence permit. The in-Spain route grants a three-year permit directly, is typically faster, and avoids the intermediate visa step. We recommend based on your nationality, whether you can enter Spain visa-free, and your preferred timeline.
Can W2 employees apply?
Yes. Since 2025, Spanish authorities have approved W2 employees (salaried workers on traditional employment contracts with foreign companies). Your employer must authorise remote work from Spain in writing, and you will need social security coordination documentation such as a Certificate of Coverage. Approvals are case-by-case.
What is the Beckham Law?
Spain's special tax regime for inbound workers. It allows qualifying Digital Nomad Visa holders to pay a flat 24% income tax rate on income up to EUR 600,000 per year for the first six years -- instead of the standard progressive rates of up to 47%. You must not have been a Spanish tax resident in the five years before your visa. Registration is via Modelo 149 filed with AEAT within six months.
Can I include my family?
Yes. Spouse or unmarried partner, dependent children, and in some cases dependent parents or other relatives can be included. Each dependent increases the income threshold. All family members receive the same visa or residence permit type and can travel freely within the Schengen area. We file all family applications simultaneously.
What qualifications do I need?
You must hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a recognised university, a professional certificate from an accredited institution, or demonstrate at least three years of professional experience in your current field. You must also have been employed by your current company or working with your current clients for at least three months before applying.
