D8 can suit non-EU remote employees, freelancers and contractors who can document their professional activity and qualifying income. A company owner's work and income structure needs the same review; owning a business alone does not establish eligibility.

Movingto's D8 professional fee starts from EUR 1,760. You receive a written quote based on your application, visa path and family scope. Government fees, insurance, translations and other third-party charges are separate unless expressly included.
The D8 documentation requirements call for average monthly income over the previous three months equivalent to at least four Portuguese minimum monthly wages. Using the EUR 920 minimum wage in 2026, that is EUR 3,680 per month for the main applicant. Your lawyer checks the current consular checklist, how your income is documented and any additional family requirements.
Employees should prepare employment contracts or employer confirmations. Freelancers and contractors should prepare service contracts, client records or other evidence of professional activity. Income records, tax-residence evidence, identity, criminal-record, accommodation and insurance documents also need review. The exact checklist and any additional requests depend on your case and consular post.
That depends on how long you intend to stay and whether you plan to establish residence in Portugal. We compare the two paths before preparing documents, including the visa process, family plans and the later AIMA stage where applicable. They should not be treated as interchangeable applications.
D8 concerns remote professional activity for employers or clients outside Portugal. D7 can suit applicants relying on documented passive income, such as pensions or rent. If your income combines several sources, we assess the actual work and income arrangements before recommending a route.
